Default question about the "ES OVAL MUFFLER"

inlinefour.com has this muffler called the es oval muffler, i was thinking about getting one for my 98 hatch, it says it needs 2.5" custom piping, can you please help me out by telling me what that means? does it mean the cat back piping has to be that size?

ES comes in both 2.25 and 2.5. yes you will need a 2.5 pipe diameter from cat back to be used with the 2.5 ES.

for more ES applications, check out www.es-sports.com

would this be a good muffler for my hatch, i just like the shape of it, similar to stock. I want a deep throaty sound though, not a loud annoying sound. Will i lose alot of HP with this muffler?

what engine are u running? are you forced inducted?

i would go with the 2.25 piping for n/a motors. the ES Oval is great if u want the deep throaty sound and the low profile stock look. it isnt annoying at all...my friend runs one on his civic and it sounds great at WOT.

well right now i just have my stock d16y8, but in the next few months i'm looking to get a b18 swap, then i have a dc 4-1 header. Later on after the swap i'm might get a turbo, but i havnt done any research about forced induction yet. Is the ES muffler good for just a stock b18 motor?

also, on that es-sports.com website, theres 2 different oval mufflers. One says "s-series" then the other says "off set s-series". I noticed the tip of the exhuast (or whatever the real name is for it) is in the middle of the muffler on one, and on the side of the other, should i get the muffler that has the tip on side, because i plan to get a ctr rear lip for my car and it looks like the lip would get in the way if i have the muffler where the tip is in the middle

You make it sound so simple. I think that's everyone's plans anyways.

honestly my friend put on a flowmaster muffler. looks exactly like stock, and it's black, and only like $80 any muffler ship will have it.

he tried to order the es muffler but JHP was on backorder.

2.25 for most cases, 2.5 is fine too, but you'll notice a lack of low end torque.

you'd put 2.5 inch on for turbo right? or would you go with a 3 inch muffler for that?

I was looking into the oval es as well. I wanna get a stock looking exhaust thats quiet and sounds nice. Anyone I get, i wanna paint the body of the muffler black. and just have nice polished tip or something. other exhausts I was considering were like the Apexi WS or something like it.

BTW, where is a nice site to buy exhaust tips. I want a nice one, not a ricer looking one you can get a pep-boys. thanks guys.

What's so special about these ES mufflers?

They're just a muffler, a good name brand like Magnaflow will do the same thing and look that same too.
