Default Normal?

I was just wondering, if my engine has plenty of oil and is changed every 3k miles is it normal when vtec kicks in for a good amount of smoke to come out of the exhaust? If someone cuts me off or some shit and I floor it and hope that I beat their normal acceleration I want to know if i'm killing my motor..

If it's a blue-ish grey smoke that typically means a small amount of burning oil. Also being that it's colder outside it may just seem like more smoke than usual, you know, exhaust-hot. you catch my drift. Just to be on the safe side I would closely monitor my oil during the next change and see if your burning a significant amount ie: more than a half a quart(with spirited driving If that's the case), I would also check it every couple of days to monitor usage and condition, and also i would take a close look as I was draining the oil to see if it appears darker/blacker than usual. Your car is pushing 15 yrs. old now so It's possible it may burn a little oil. I have had older vehicles that burned a bit of oil when driving hard, that were not desperately in need of service. But definitely keep an eye on it. Hope all is well.

If you have blue gray smoke coming out your tail pipe then you blew your head gasket and you need to stop driving the car. My honda does what your saying minus VTEC cause I have a D15B and from what i can tell and what was explained to me its burning a little water from somewhere or there is the possibility that you could be running to lean or to rich. I am no expert thats just what I have come up with for mine. When was the last time you had a cat done? Is it fouled by any chance? Not sure if that would cause it but i am sure it doesn't help.

No, when I am driving at idle and normal driving no smoke comes out. Only when I am at very high rpm's, and when vtec engages does smoke come out for a very short amount of time. I believe you are right about the
too rich/lean. The cat looks original, so i dunno bout that. I guess i need to just drive like a normal human being and i will be all set, i get about 32 mpg's mostly city some highway so I figure it is running alright.

blue grey is not head gasket, white would be burning coolant/water.
