Default custom exhaust setup

for all of you guys with custom exhaust setups do you buy a new presilencer/resonator, do you use the one that came from your car, or do you just use straight piping from the cat.? does it make it crazy loud if it is just piping? right now i am thinking about using mandrel bent piping from Magnaflow and a Thermal R&D axel back and having a friend set it up for me. but i'm wondering if i will need to put a resonator or buy a new one. how much do you guys think the price difference will be? thanks.

You can get a bigger resonator from a muffler shop or Checker in almost any diameter for like 25 bucks...

Well dunno about u guys but my car came with a resonator, if u want it loud take it out.

If you care about performance at all, or plan to do bigger upgrades in the future, crunch-bent exhaust piping is stupid. I don't see how ridges of metal jutting out into the exhaust flow would be just as good as nice smooth bends. Magnaflow mandrel bends are cheap, and any muffler shop can put together a good smooth system for not too much more that a crunched pipe.

You'd probably be best off with the 2.25" piping, wushu, assuming you don't have any big mods.

sorry, i didn't really address your question.

you don't need a resonator, but your car will be a lot louder, and sound ricey, imo. I personally would prefer the quietest exhaust possible. Good straight through resonators and mufflers barely impede flow at all, so I'd just throw on the biggest resonator that fits. The magnaflow ones are good, but many would work.

Why are you asking us?? Why not ask your exhaust friend. You'd have to figure out how much for piping materials, axle-back and resonator.. there you go.

I have a custom setup with 2.5" mandrel bent pipe to a universal dunk muffler. When I first got it done, I had no resonator and it was STUPID LOUD!

I had the shop put a 12" resonator in and it sounds MUCH better. I highly recommend a resonator.

call magnaflow and ask for the hotrod kit pricing, that will give you all the bends and straight pipes you need. I don't know how much it costs.
