Default need help!

i know that some of you guys here have done this cheap mod. i'm talking about the vtec light mod. i know some other has already posted this before... but i couldn't find the info i needed. from jdmfan.com, the instruction said to either connect the one wire to the solenoid or to the green with yellow strip (located on 25P) on the ecu. well, based on the second to last sentence in the paragraph below, i figure since the ECU will tell the solenoid to turn on, i figure that would be the best place to tap the wire in.

http://www.jdmfan.com/technical/cosm...tec_indicator/
"You have two options for connecting to the cars VTEC system. Route the wire as you wish. One is at the solenoid (I recommend), and the other is the ECU (more difficult and untested). The solenoid is next to the distributor cap under the hood. It has a single green wire with a white stripe connecting to it. The ECU has a green wire with a yellow stripe that is the VTEC signal wire located on connector 25P. In either case you have to tap/splice into the wire. When the ECU tells VTEC to come on, the power is turned on to the solenoid. Now that will in turn light the indicator lamp"

just to clear this up... yes, the light works cuz it light up when i turn the key to ignition. and yes my engine has vtec (d16y8). and yes, i waited till my car was at normal operating temperature. when i test drove it tonite, i reved to 5800 rpm on first gear, and second gear reved again to 6000 rpm, and still nothing.

so is there something i am missing here? the wire i used to connect to the ECU is a 14 gauge wire. should i use something thinner? i figure since the light lights up when key is turn to ignition, it shouldn't have any problem. i know it's not a big mod to be wowed at... but its something that i think would be cool to see. so please help if you can... cuz i know i'll probably get flamed... lol... but thanks for ur help though~

yup, i did that... i tapped it in that wire. so i've been pondering about why it didn't work last nite, and i am thinking... a) cuz i was low on fuel or b) i should use a thinner wire like a 21 gauge.

i'll try it out later this week and see....
