Default tire thread...AGAIN :oh:

ive been reading up on Kumho 712s..they are WR rated, WTF does that mean? and Treadwear is 280.

the lower the treadwear the less grip but better life of the tire?

With its European design and styling, the ECSTA Supra 712 delivers ultra high performance featuring black letter styling and available in 55-, 50, 45- and 40-series; H-, V- and Z-speed rated sizes for 15" to 18" wheel diameters.

if they said they are WR rated, then what is the H, V, Z crap for?

people with 712s, how long have you had them and how long have they lasted you(miles)

everyone in the link has totally different shiit to say about them. i dont know what tires i want know. i hate my falkens.

WR is highter than ZR I believe. 160+ speed rating with 280 treadwear. The lower the treadwear, the softer the compound, making it more sticky...but not in all cases. Somebody correct me if Im wrong.

There is no standard to treadwear and ratings... the tire companies use their best judgement on that. I have 360 treadwear on my 712's. That is b/c I run H rated for daily driving. No need and no way I can go past 130 mph anyway.

the standard for treadwear is 100... a 300 will last 3 times as long as a 100... performance tires are usually (not at all always) low on the treadwear rating... my z-rated es100 are 280... i have seen up to 360 on a zrated performance tire, just cant remember off the top of my head which one...

Yeah, higher treadwear rating in general means longer lasting tire, but less sticky.

Oh yeah, and here are the speed rating standards:

P - 93 MPH
Q - 99 MPH
S - 112 MPH
T - 118 MPH
U - 124 MPH
H - 130 MPH
V - 149 MPH
W - 168 MPH
Y - 186 MPH
Z - 149+ MPH

H-130

Z-149+
W-168
Y-186

W and Y are used mostly on exotics such as Lamborghini's and Ferrari's etc. No need to have them on your Civic.

I have the 215/40x16" Kumho 712s ZR rated. And my last set lasted about 25,000 miles. That was about 30 autocrosses and 15,000 street miles.

no...my HR's are 360, my friend's ZR's are 280 I believe. Treadwear will decrease as speed ratings increase.
