98 civic idle surges when at a stop for a while
my 98 civic ex d16y8 idles at a surge really fast when im sitting at a stop for about a minute or longer and the car wont move unless i turn it off and turn it back on. i had 2 cel codes one for idle air control valve i replaced that with one from a honda dealer used, the cel went off, i thought that would of stopped it, but it did stop the idle surge when coming to a stop when ever id come to a stop it would surge slowly..the other cel light is for the 02 sensor to cat, which i dont have, could that be the problem? any help would be great
Wait, you're saying if you come to a stop the car won't move until you shut if off and restart?! If that's the case, I'm guessing you have an automatic and an issue with said transmission.
no its a 5speed...when i come to a stop and if im stopped for longer than 45-60 seconds my car with idle high and low really really fast and i have to turn the car off and turn it back on,,,i had a cel light for iacv and i changed it and the light went off but it still does it
^ohhhhhhh, ok. I could've sworn you were saying the car wouldn't move unless restarted.

Yeah bleeding the system would be the next logical step as Sir Acura Tech suggested. Just have some rags handy and some water in a jug to wash off any coolant that gets on paint. Otherwise you could hold a large funnel into the rad. inlet so the coolant expands into the funnel, but it's best (just in case) for you or another to watch the temp. gauge while you run it up to temp - fan comes on twice.
