5000 to put on a civic
1. invest the money wisely
2. use civic the way it was meant to be used
3. thank your dad
Seriously, I would still save at least some of the cash if your dad is fine with that. $5k is a decent chunk of change.
If you are allowed to do some performance mods, other than swap, suspension is also cool.

what kind of mileage do you have on the engine now? If its low, keep the engine for now and work on building up the suspension. Theres no sense in taking out an engine that has like 50,000 miles on it. Once you've run it up pretty high, then do the swap.
He does have a point about saving your current engine for now. Buuuuuut, who can wait that long for some good old DOHC VTEC? I know I couldn't if I were in your shoes.
