I have spoken to an ASE certified mechanic and he said anything more than a 1000W inverter would kill the alternator and that even with the 1000W inverter he suggested an alternator upgrade.

worst idea ever

just buy the generator and be done with it ... inverters werent exactly designed to run 24/7 and running your motor of your car like that is going to wear components out even if its just sitting idling. not worth it at all

generators are useful in so many ways

you don't need to talk to an ASE mechanic to figure that one out.
