Alright, so I'm done with the audio in the '97 coupe. After being jacked yet again a week and a half ago, I'm not putting crap in this car anymore, being it's my DD and it's seen (and heard) every where. I have an old 1990 Civic Sedan beater for competing with.

I have about a grand ($1000) to spend, and want the most power I can get.

I'm not wanting to boost it, (not yet atleast) because I don't understand all the tuning and tech info that goes into it, and I don't feel like paying someone a huge amount of money to do it.

What can I do, to a D16Y8, 5 speed, to get the most power, for $1000. Right now I have a Megan header, test pipe, and AEM short ram intake. I don't want no fartcan exhaust, either.

Ripping the motor apart is very do-able, so no problem there.

Oh, and what are some mail order parts catalogues like Jeg's and Summit Racing that have import parts? I can't find any, except Skunk2 and such.

being that you don't want to go turbo and you only have 1k..

my suggestion is buy a zex nitrous kit for 500 bux & save the other money for gas & bottle re-fill's

I dunno y8 and z6 swaps can be had for about $500 locally, so I would do that for starters. Remaining $500 on shocks and brake pads.

:edit: I'm an idiot, you already have a y8. h: $1000 is plenty for a good turbo setup. If you're not knowlegable enough, then start reading up! Once you've wrapped your head around the project, do it. I doubt there is some reason you have to spend this money right away... And if you're still anti-turbo, get used to having a slow car.

Nitrous works for the track, but really serves no purpose for a street car since stoplight racing is ghey. Doesn't really do you any good for spirited drives up a canyon road or the like, since you can only reliably juice a stock motor for a handful of seconds at a time... definitely wouldn't want to leave that bottle open for 15 minutes :hsugh:

Nitrous, although not recommend or legal on the street can be a lot of fun with the local automotive scene at night. Obviously on safe roads with controled traffic. We won't get any deeper into discussion about this as it's not allowed on here.
