look at the badge... When looking at the motor on the exhaust side, to the left of the header, there will be a badge that says B18*** i'm not sure EXACTLY 1000000% sure what numbers and letters come after that.. D series guy here.. but if it's a Type R, i THINK it will say B18C, or B18C5.. if it says anything other than that, A, B, is probaly an LS, or C1 is a GSR if i remember correctly.. someone please verify for me..

b18c5 if its USDM. B18C if its JDM. head casting is PR3. stock intake manifold on the Type R looks like the b16a one. The GSR intake manifolds curl under to the back.

It'll probably be an engine code B18C or B18C5... Other engines from other countries other than japan or the US also used C6 and C7 for ITR designations

BEWARE Sir-G motors also carry the B18C without the sub number.

Best way to tell is if it has a PR3 cast head.

gsr manifold curls to the back like so:

itr manifold curls upwards with the plenum in plain view on top like so:

LS/b18b manifold has a sharp curve to it:

Plus, if it's an LS, the valve cover wont say dohc vtec on it

You guys are on it! Thanks again, I understand c5 for US spec just a"c" if overseas. I am very new to this Honda game, can somebody run down to me these letter designations: GSR,ITR,LS and head casting number PR3.

In terms of engines:

GSR- P72 Head, B18c[1], VTEC enabled
ITR- PR3 Head, B18c[[5], VTEC enabled
LS- PR4 Head, B18A/B

The P72 head is better than that of a PR3 head in terms of flow and compression- a PR3 head originally comes from the B16 family of engines

When found on an ITR the PR3 is highly upgraded, it's polished and features more aggressive cams... That being said in stock form it is better than the P72 head found on a GSR

The GSR engine also features butterfly valves on the intake- allowing two paths for a better response and airflow depending on RPM.

If looking at things from a distanced perspective the GSR featured a lot of technology, it was more advanced than the ITR- but in spite of that the ITR was a hacked down, no-nonsense machine and thanks to it's high compression and race-like cam profiles easily overpowered the GSR

ITR had appx 200 hp
GSR/SIR-G 170/180hp
LS had about 130-140hp
