ok my little D series turbo whores....
I have aquired a nice little d16y8 for the EK and while it is just sitting there begged to be dropped into my DD, I figured why not boost the shit out of it. I know there are some very accomplished D series builders here. For the most part everybody in here knows who I am and what capabilities I have. What I am mostly looking for is ideas on parts/peices etc. I know there was a pretty cheap rod/piston combo some people were using etc. Hit me with some ideas. I am gonna sell a spare GSR longblock and a k20a2 I have laying around for fundage.
Really only looking for 200-250whp for now. I am more concerned about daily driving fun that 12 second traps. It will be tuned by Tony so it will run CROME as its engine management.
Tony: can crome use a seperate channel to control a boost control solonoid?

the cheap one you were probably talkin about was the vitara piston/eagle rod combo. look up jfk78 on hater tech, or fjdistributors for kits.. there's a LOT of info on these, and numerous 400+ HP builds out there... jfk i believe is the current record holder at 484 or so, on a mustang dyno, which from what i've read, (being that i have no actual experience in this, and will be the first to tell you that all my engine building info is only read about) is a little over 500 on a dynojet.. and if you find some, make sure they're YCP brand, because the nippon racing pistons are horrible... again, from what i've READ, you may want to consider going .020 over and get some 75.5 vitara's because of piston slap in the 75's.. good luck with it!
pretty much what he said^ the eagle/vitara combo is good to over 400hp, get ycp pistons. but the stock block should be fine at 200-250hp with a good tune. the y8's oil pump doesn't seem to be as good at the z6 so a port and shim job would be a good idea. If I were you I'd just make sure the motor is up to par, do a little to the oil pump, and throw some arp head bolts on it and call it a day. That's what we did when we rebuilt my friend's d16z6 del sol and we plan on just over 200hp.
if you do go vitara check out fjt http://fjdistributors.com/product_in...roducts_id=171 and look on ebay for the sellers automotivepr and fjtomei (fjt's ebay name) they are pretty much known on turbod as good to do business with

well the d16y8 I aquired has about 124k on the bitch so it will be getting a complete overhaul. Gaskets/timing belt/water pump/oil pump/etc etc. It will def. be getting bored .020 over. Vitara!! that was the name I was trying to think of, thanks guys.
On to the question of turbo size. I really only wanna hit 250whp when pushed, so I would like to do something relatively small (if the bug bites I can always upgrade). Any suggestions?
I will be doing a bunch of research on TurboD but figured I would start this thread so if I had any specific questions I could just pop them on here instead of new threads.

i love it. i think its a great turbo for a street setup. fast spooling (full 10lbs by 3000rpm) and is torquey too. could probably do 250whp without too much trouble but it's comfortable for any setup up to 200whp.
