JDM EG6 Folding Mirrors
I purchased some EG6 FOLDING MIRRORS with the relay and switch from ebay. Does anybody know what wiring and/or equipment I need to install them to work? Is it hard to wire it?
Thanks for the help....
Thanks for the help....
should be fairly easy... follow the wiring from the relay and the switch and your current setup but i believe you need to add another wire for the switch... in any case, wire it to your alarm if you have one that way they retract when you "arm" your car
as far as the mirror goes, take your USDM mirror out of it's plastic casing.. you'll see what i'm talking about, but don't break it!!! then take the JDM mirror out of it's casing (it's the black plastic thing that goes around the glass itself that attaches to the adjustment screws on the mirror) and put the USDM glass into the JDM casing, and then CAREFULLY (this is were i broke mine) put the glass and casing back into the mirror assembly... only thing you don't have is the convex mirror on the passenger side.. which i never like anyways...
now.. as for the wiring... expect to spend probably half a day on this if you've never done it before, and ESPECIALLY if you've never taken your dash out, and maybe more if you care a lot about how your car looks and functions...
1. for the schematic, i just called password:JDM and told them i just purchased the mirrors from them, but it didn't include the schematic (it helps if you've puchased from them before because they look up your phone number before they help you-or get a friend who has) and they'll send you either by email, or fax, the pinout for the plugs...
2. NOW.. BEFORE I SAY THIS, IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, YOU MUST BE VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYY CAREFUL!!!!! IF YOU PULL THE WIRE OUT OF THE CONNECTOR PIN (THE FANCY METAL CLIP THING ON THE END THAT'S INSIDE THE PLUG) YOU'RE PRETTY MUCH F'D!!!!!!! instead of cutting your whole stock mirror harness, and wiring them all back together using the JDM harness, whose only difference is the one wire, simply depin that one wire from the JDM harness (you'll have to do this twice) and put it into the associated plug on your now saved and unbutchered USDM harness.. you'll have to do the same thing with the switch harness on the back of the new switch that should have came also. if not, passwordjdm.com usually has plenty in stock.. i used a large and small paper clip and some finageling to get the wire out, but it'll just plug right in.. if you DO decide to just cut and splice the whole harness, do them the wires one at a time, because i BELIEVE there are some same coded ones that don't do the same thing... now back to the mirror harness... attach a long enough piece of wire to be able to go through your door, the door harness, and up into your dash... sadly, this is the point where taking out your dash will make this a lot easier, especially for the passenger side...
3.wire tie that wire and the long piece of wire that you juts attached (this is where it gets kinda tricky) with the wires running through your door.. pull apart the plugs at the door (i found it's easier to pull out the pin on the door stop so that you have ample swing to get in there, but watch your fender so that you don't mess that up  ) and pull the door plug out of the door so that you can hold it in your hand.. take a drill and into one of the unused holes in that plug, drill a hole just large enough to clean out the hole, and insert the wire through.. you'll have to do that on the associated hole on the body plug also.. feed the wire through those holes, and through the rubber boot going into the car.. making sure you have no kinks, plug them back together, and make sure the door plug is securely fastened in the door.
4. I used a combination of a test light and test wires (a positive and a ground) to test the mirrors and relay and switch and to see what wires did what. If i remember correctly, there is a separate wire for each side, so watch what you do, and double check everything before you attach the wires together. If you use the same wire for both sides, i would say you may over load the circuit and need to replace more than just a wire  . I used butt plugs, and have had no problems for the 2 years that i've had them, but solder if you want..
5. Do the same thing that you did on the drivers side in number 3, on the passenger side.. just make sure that you wire tie everything together, and that it's secure and out of the way. i did this by just staying with all the wires already present. You'll also have to ground the relay and find a place to mount that. For the ground, I just used a C-connector and one of the bolts under the dash.. scraped away any paint to ensure a good connection, and bolted it down.. test test test test test it all out before you put your dash back on.. you'll thank me later because i didn't.. also watch for any caught wires and anything else that might get caught up when you put the dash back in.. i had EVERYTHING back together, and had to tear it all apart because i pulled the ground wire off when i put the dash back in..
hope that helps!
