Default What can I do with a D16 Z6 motor?

Hey guys,

I've got headers on this and an air intake. What can I do with this motor? Does it have any potential for more power with just the stock internals?
The car was given to me and the motor was dropped in before I got it.

Could you also tell me how much horse power this maybe kicking out with the cat, headers, and air intake? I saw somewhere that it kicks out 125hp without these parts added to the car.

first you have a "header" not "headers", sorry little pet peeve of mine. there is alot of potential in the the z6, as you can see my del sol numbers in my sig. You can boost it to about 250hp without having to build it. Sorry to burst your bubble but with those mods your probably putting out about 100hp if that and your tq numbers are gonna be pretty close to stock

Thanks...sorry about the "headers." Even I thought that was stupid. As far as "boosting" what application could I use to accomplish this. I don't know to much motor lingo so are you referring to turbo chargers, NOS, both, or neither. I know you guys hate the noob ?'s, but you are the motor god's I pray to for answers

How much would getting it to 250hp cost?

the easiest method to make any amount of power is with a turbo. Check out www.turbod16.com or homemadeturbo.com for alot of information to get started on boosting. DO ALOT OF RESEARCH, the more you know before you start the better the set up is gonna work and the longer it will last. Also, be sure to use the search feature, there is alot of information on this site and youll find that most of your questions have been answerd before

depending on your recon skills you could get to 250hp for as little as 5 to 6 hundred bucks, some have even done it for less.

and after dropping all that money into his car i could build a d series turbo set up for half that cost and destroy your "na" car. As far as the whole "leave those turbo cars laggin.. while your draggin" comment, with the number of turbos available you can effectivly eliminate any kind of lag, exspecialy if he only wants around 250hp, a simple 14b from a dsm and an hf manifold wont cost him 300 bucks and after a few more parts he would easily get 250hp, mean while youve had to upgrade your valvetrain, youve had to swap the pistons to raise compression to make more power, and in end your STILL only going to make marginal gaines from stock regardless of the motor your useing

Huge waste of money h:

I'm with 2gr84u... if you really want to get decent power from your z6, turbo is the only cost-effective way. Research, research, research... if you spend a lot of time searching through old threads, reading FAQ's and gathering information, you'll have a better grasp of the kind of work and parts required and you'll be able to make an educated decision. Don't buy a single part until you've got a complete plan laid out.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll try to dig up some info on this. If I can get away with getting results for under $1000.00, I'll be very pleased.
