Its a sad day for tha Mac
My father is the president of the southwest Nissan Xterra club. Let me tell you, Fourwheelin is hella fun but it is also expensive too. My father has a 2000 Xterra XE 4x4 and a 2001 Xterra SE 4x4 and they both can go just about anywhere. We rarely get stuck. Wranglers are nice too but they have a short wheel base. My dad also has an 88' Cherokee with over 300k on it that will go anywhere too and my mom just bought a 2002 Liberty limited and she got 0% apr for five years. A lot of people love wranglers (I do) but I have seen many tip over backwards and they suck for everyday driving unlike the truck based SUV's. Just depends what you want. If you just want a daily driver then just get anything. a friend of mine just got a new Yukon Denali and it's sweet but he pays almost $800.00 a month. I think you could get the jetta tranny rebuilt for around $1,500.00 so that would be a good deal.
Get a Subaru WRX...stock with a turbo. I test drove one of these things, and my friend had to pry me away from the steering wheel. If i sell my civic and chip in an extra 20G i can get one....

Haha sell your civic and chip in an extra 20G? You can get a WRX for like 23 easy...i hope you can get more than 3 grand for your 99 civic ex.
VWs are expensive to repair and everyone that I know that has one has a ton of problems with it.
What about a 240SX?
If you want to find a good resource for the MX-6 go to www.probetalk.com (Ford Probe/MX-6 same car).
I'd avoid both the Neon and the Cavilear.
Although, I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

I'm really feeling the MX-6. I know probes are the same thing but everyone has them around my way too (cuz they're a little cheaper than the MX-6 they are also more regular)
last opinion I'm gonna my people of honda-acura.net:
what car do you like better? and Which one has better performance?
1)Mazda MX-6
2) Eclipse/Talon
3) Saab 900 (non-turbo)
hit me back.

i'm not sure any of those cars are too reliable....i vote 240sx as well or even do a classic SE-R (91-94) they can be found for under 2000 easy and a DET swap is maybe another 2 and BAM you have a 13 second car
Eclipse/Talon with the 4G63T is going to be the best performer of that group. The non-turbo Saab 900 is going to be slow. The turbo 900s can be fast, but they're very expensive to upgrade. I almost bought one, but they're also very expensive to fix.

Not worth it, tranny job for a Jetta would be at least $3000+... unless you can SOMEHOW get it under warantee if you are THAT good.
