Default starting problem!!

hi, i have a 98 civic ex coupe, i am at 138k and just did a major service from honda. Its like - 8 degrees outside, i left my car outside for like one and a half day, and i had my block heater plug in. For some reason, the engine takes like 15-20 seconds before it actually starts, and also once its started, the engine seems want to die then slow rev up.

when it was started the rpm was at around 1200 then it slowing rev up.

the sound was like misfiring, it started half way but i had to hold the ignition till it starts completely.

does anyone know what is the problem? is it my battery? engine timing? ignition(was tuned from honda 1 week ago)? map sensor?

thx

Your block heater was left on for a day and a half? How does it work, how hot does it get? I hope you didn't fry anything. Wiring, or otherwise.

block heaters of frost plugs don't really do any more than keep the coolant liquidous. I'm guessing you either have a dead ass battery or you have an issue with spark. Check your wires and make sure they're all hooked up tightly, and then go from there. Try jumping it. If that doesn't work, it's your battery or alternator. could also be that the gas line froze. I've had that happen, and it takes a while for it to thaw out so you can actually drive...

when i was doing major service at honda, they said that my battery's charge is low, but then i was thinking it might be my amps pulling all the battery when the car wasn't started. my car has not problem starting in the summer or around 0 degree. can it be really the battery problem? if it is, what is a good battery to get, i think the honda ones sucks anyways.

thx

If your battery is more than 2 yrs old, it's probably the culprit. I get my batteries from Costco They're like $30, and come with a 2yr 100% replacement guarantee. So if it dies within 2 years, you get a free battery. Beyond that, they give you a certain percentage for up to 72 months(6 years). Also, if the cashier forgets to mark the date the battery is sold by removing the little labels(like they forgot to do on mine:naughty: ), then you can pretty much come back whenever, and get a free replacement battery.
