Default 93 Civic - adding a tachometer

This is probably civic 101 to most of you...

is it very easy to hook up a tachometer? My car didn't come with one and I'd like to add one.

Thanks

if you want a tach, get the ex or si gauge cluster (combines the temp and fuel gauges into one area and puts the tach in the other). this is a plug and play upgrade and looks 1000000 times better then a huge aftermarket tach screwed into your dash.

seconded on the ex/si cluster, you can also use an LX or VX cluster too, they just have a lower redline than the ex/si one. Like said above, all plug and play and look a lot cleaner.

Well, I've always wondered if the wiring was already there behind the dash waiting for me. I have a CX; does that still apply?

Was there an EX or Si in 1993? I thought it was CX, DX, LX and VX

What about the odometer?

Thanks for the advice

I put an ex cluster in my dx civic. Then i changed the bulbs and put red LEDs in it...so the red cluster matches my red car. Looks so clean and its all plug and play.

so does anyone know if the CX has the same plug/play? Would the tachometer still be wired in (behind the cluster)?

i don't own an eg but i'm pretty sure it's already wired in plug and play. pick up a new gauge cluster and try it out!

If you own a manual, it might only be a total of three plugs back there. One being the SRS connection (the yellow center one).

The other two are wide grey colored plugs that go on each side of the back of the cluster. If you own an auto, there is a 4th connection that has to be made. A green plug that has something to do with the illumination of the gear selection.

If you get the cluster from a 5-speed manual and put it into another 5-speed manual, it will plug in fine, same for auto to auto cluster. Makes sense anyways to do that.

I'd recommend the LX cluster, as that Redline on the tach is closer to the CX redline. I believe it's off by only 300rpm. It doesn't really matter if you use the EX, Si as well, just if you're picky on the redline. If you engine swap later to B16s, that won't matter anyways. Closest redline matching would be a JDM cluster from and EG6 for the B16 redline.

Also, the LX cluster MIGHT be cheaper. I can't confirm that, I just assume it.

So can I adjust the odometer (on a new/used one) to get closer to my actual mileage? Or is that hard to do?
