99 Civic LX cracked manifold
Hi guys mine's cracked pretty bad on top... down the back... and some on the front also. I'm wondering if I should attempt at having this welded or get an aftermarket or used. Used and aftermarket are around the same price.
Is there anything not as good about an aftermarked one?
What would you recommend?

Well I'm In Canada... don't know if that makes much difference... but my car has the Exhaust Manifold with the built on Catalytic Converter all in one piece. So here's my options:
Used from a junkyard $250 (probably sell mine for $80 back to them)
New Aftermarket $300
Have it removed and taken to a welding shop, I'm not sure what the mechanic would charge to take it off and put it back on... but the welding would be $80.

If you get a new aftermarket one, you'll have to have an exhaust shop relocate the cat and run o2 sensor wires down under the motor, so you're looking at more than just the cost of the exhaust manifold.
$250 for a junkyard exhaust manifold is absolutely outrageous. Is this an actual quote (from a human being) or an online thing? That is flat out highway robbery.
And you don't need a mechanic to remove your exhaust manifold. Its super easy... just unbolt the heat shield, unbolt the nuts holding it on where it meets up with the motor and unbolt the bolts under the car where it meets up with the exhuast. Then just wiggle it out. No mechanical ability required (beyond lefty loosy, righty tighty)

Honestly, I haven't shopped for a part like this in a while, but if they quoted me $250 for one at a junkyard, I'd laugh in their face. Maybe I'm just getting the exchange rate wrong? $250 Canadian is like $200 US, right?

Actually $250cnd is about $248.50usd right now.
If anyone here can find me an exhaust manifold with the built on catalytic converter in good shape with no cracks want want to sell it to me and make some easy money if they're that cheap down there. I have a feedback of all + 102 on ebay.

Well someone on ebay had a brand new genuine one @ 16lbs and the shipping was calculated to my postal code via USPS Priority Mail International at $26.45(usd). Shipping you throw it in a box... put my address and your return address like anything else. The only different is you have to fill out a customs form stating what it is and it's value. Then when it crosses the border I would probably have to pay the taxes on that amount (13% here)
I'm interested at what price they give you... my prices were with the original o2 sensor in tact if that makes a dif and the cat since it's welded as one piece.
