No, it is not necessary, about 99.9% of the lowered civics out there do not have them. But it would definitely be nice to have

Basically, it moves the upper shock mount up an inch and a half or so, which gives you more suspension travel, doesn't compress your shocks as much (longer shock life and arguably better damping and ride).

FYI!!!!!!!!! i just installed my koni/gc setup last weekend and up front at 1 finger gap between the top of the tire and the fender-well i had ZERO available shaft play!!!! my koni shock body was touching my cut 1.75" oem bumpstop. yup.. soo for most of the people out there who run koni/gc and don't think to check....check your shock travel!!

i now run the gc top hats in the front and did the shock fork trick and have 1.5" of shock travel at the same 1 finger gap height.

the rears at 1 finger gap had 1.5" of shock travel with stock hats
