Default sound when moving the shifter left and right

hi, i have a 98 civic ex, i have a dc sport short shifter installed for awhile ago, but today when i was moving the shifter left and right, i heard some sound coming from it, its hard to describe what the sound is, but it sounds like its hitting soemthing, but i removed the head shield underneath already, so what else could it be hitting, and just curious, is that sound normal?

thanks you!!!

Are you running stock bushings?

I would wager the stock rubber bushings are accountable for the slop in your shifter, and probably contribute to the excess noise. Try running some urethane shifter bushings. They're like $15 and will improve your shifter feel drastically.

Might be hitting your exhaust pipe... sometimes the whole exhaust shifts and thus you tap it, other times it shifts back out...

I also own a 98 EX w/ a DC sports shifter. I have urethane bushings and when I move it left to right all I hear is a clicking sound which is normal. Is this what yours is doing or does it sound like its banging against something?

I have a 2000 EX w/ a DC Sports short shifter w/ stock bushings also...

Mine makes that noise as well, kinda sounds like it's metal hitting metal. Possibly the shifter hitting the exhaust, because the noise kinda echos...

Not only that, the Shifter gets pretty hot sometimes...

I've been wondering if its normal too.. i hope so.. hehe
