hi,

how do you remove this 'thermal unit' from a d16y8 engine? it's not like an ordinary plug, so didn't want to take any chance of damaging anything..

Thanks. I meant, I don't see a way to disconnect the wires first so I can use a wrench or deep socket. It does not have a 'connector' that I can disconnect...

 

ohhh...its just a rubber boot/nipple. Grab the boot and give it a tug, it helps to give it a little side to side spin action as you pull. Don't tug on the wire as you can damage it but it will just pop off.

 

Thanks...I got it off by just grabbing it and pulling it off. It did not come out easily and I was afraid to do any more damage after the expensive knock sensor was damaged...I was literally just touching the electrical connector to the knock sensor just to make sure it was tight while the intake manifold is out and the connector housing was so brittle that it just cracked...there went a $140 part...
