If it takes a while for the heater to come on, then it's most likely your thermostat.

Other potential causes of overheating:
-headgasket
-radiator cap
-leaks in hoses leading to low coolant level
-wrong mixture/type of coolant
-water pump

I fail to see that it's your water pump, but then again I don't know your car. When you park it, have it running and check for leaks. You can also make sure that all air is out of the lines.

I only told him to have someone else look at it because he didn't seem to know enough about the problems.. Better to have someone else look at it that knows what they are doing vs. risking damage to your motor.

 

but for now do you recomend buying antifreeze and poring 50/50 with water. Or should I run on empty overflow tank.

 

If you have to drive it definately buy antifreeze and mix it 50/50 w/ water. When the motor is cold check the radiator to make sure that is full too. Top off both the radiator and the overflow reservoir.
