While I was driving the window to my sunroof, which hasnt been working properly, ripped off from the frame. Thank god it wen t sailing on to the shoulder and didnt cause accident.

Now I'm looking for a replacement and thinking about bolting on a piece of lexan glass to the frame? Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions for a replacement? I really dont want to plug it, and i dont want to buy another piece of glass in fear of this happening again.

 

Holy crap! Is the how's the integrity of the frame? You shouldn't have to reinforce anything that the factory hadn't already done.

 

The frame is good. It seem that the window is secured to the frame by some sort of silicone glue.
I don't know what happened, the glue looks like it hardened and separated from the window.

 

go to a local yard and get an entire replacement. They sell for cheap as long as its the factory sunroof and not an aftermarket.

 

That's what I've been doing. Its kinda hard to find one that doesnt have the window broken though.

But also I was looking for something that's a little more secured to the frame.

 

the glass is not just glued on, there are mounting brackets that are attached to the glass. They prob. got old and broken, this in combination with the hardened and old sealant was the cause. It is the first I have heard, but mine in my EG coupe blew half way off on the freeway in a similar manor. If you can find a used one from somewhere it will be good to go. Just make sure you inspect it for flaw before putting it in.

You will notice it's louder in the cabin with the plexiglass installed. I'm sure you will have issues with leaks and whatnot, too. But I do know what you're saying about a lot of them being broken. Mine has a crack going down the middle (don't know how it happened), and haven't been able to find a good replacement, as they were all cracked.
