Default Newbie trying to learn...

I just bought a 97 Honda Civic LX. I am VERY new to car modding and would like to know if there are some good "readup" websites that you guys recommend me to soak up on before I head out and start asking stupid questions.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

yeah, when I was 15 I started gettin into cars, but knew NOTHING about them, and I just started reading magazine after magazine... sure enough I know a LOT about cars... it's all just absorbing the information... anyways, HAN is an awesome place to learn about Hondas, the guru's here are superior to most, and they are quick about answering questions. You've found the right site.

The LX engine sucks. Its what I have.

Basiclly, all you can easily do to the engine is get an intake. The LX's header has the cat right next to it, so changing the headers requires moddification to the exhaust piping, and vise versa. But there are a *few* companys that sell LX ehxausts.

Heres what you do:

If you want to go N/A (normal aspiration, no turbo/supercharger), get either a b16 (out of the civic SIR) or get a b18c1 (out of the Integra GSR). Those will get you moving quick.

If you want to go FI (forced induction), get yourself a B18b (out of the integra LS). Those engines can take boost like a bat out of hell. I've seen some people on Honda-Tech talk about putting 3.5 psi into those engines and getting 200 horsepower out of it, so its definatly worth looking into.

I dunno, the best advice I can give you is to waste your money on the things that matter first. Then work on the minor consmetics and whatnot.

wow, thanks a lot fo all these info. I have to admit that some of the terms are over my head. I want to learn how things work and what does what and why certain things are done first before I dump a bunch of money into this deal. Forums are great but I would like to read some HOW-TOs, and some modding BASICS first.

this is truely a great site though cuz' people are really helpful. sometimes I just wish that I knew about car as much as i do w/ computer. (well, I grew up w/ computers, so it is much easier.

Thanks in advance.
