Ok, so I took the axle back out (it pulled right out, no prying needed) and took some measurements...dimensions show it appears to be the correct axle. Problem: cannot get the retaining ring past the first set of splines...I'm hearing a fairly solid metal to metal sound when I try to slide it home all the way.....still not locking in place. A little help from a sledge maybe? Anyone else encounter any difficulty w/replacing CV axles on 92 Civic 5 spd?

 

It's that little metal ring (The real name escapes me atm) on the end of the axle that's your problem. Get a new one or pinch the old one closed/tight with a pair of pliers.

now, if my Left Upper Control Arm would get here, I could be driving again.
