Default recomended tire size????

I have a set of 17x7 rims that i was trying to sell but im just going to give them to my gf friend who has a stock height 2001 honda civic. What size tire should she get they have 205 40 17s on there now and the tires look way to small? tire rack suggested 215 45 17s for it. are they correct and how big would the side wall be?

What is the stock size?

Usuall most Civics run 205/40x17" tires.

215/45/17 would actually be the correct tire size for a 01 civic, especially with stock suspension.

To get the right tires size you add 10 to the 1st number and subtract 10 to the 2nd number for every inch you go up from stock so.....

185/65x15"
195/55x16"
205/45x17"
215/35x18"

And comfy ride and 17" do not go hand in hand. She's going to have to give up a comfy ride for that size wheel. The best thing is to sell them and get 16s.
