I'm on ur trak breakin mah car!!!

Well I went to the track in Martin, Mi saturday. It's a hella nice track and it was a beautiful day. I made my first pass and bogged it on the line big time. So I decided to crank it up and giver hell on the next pass. I got mad wheel hop so I went to shift to second gear and just finish the run. No dice, the car wouldn't move so I shut it down. Obviously I reacted too slow. It was leaking something and as I was pushed off one of the guys was swearing that I threw a rod through the block. He was wrong it was tranny oil. The good news is the engine runs fine. It turns out I busted an axle, which I couldn't tell because it was busted inside and it looked like it was fine but popped out. My radiator looks fucked and some other stuff looks pretty messed up. Looks like new mounts, springs, radiator, and traction bars are in my future. A popular theory seems to be that I blew my head gasket and that, with boost pressure, caused my radiator to look like it does. I'm not so sure but I'm going to pull the head anyway. If nothing else this is a testament to the destructive power of wheel hop.

that should be one piece, note the twisted boot

the sides should be straight, not bowed

that bolt was in the bracket to support the turbo

flex pipe to the rescue, I think it saved me more damage to the turbo and exhaust by absorbing the relocation of the engine due to...

this is the only mount that doesn't look right it may be hard to see but it looks slightly buckled to me

man i feel your pain, i've twisted the left outer joint off my half shaft a few times, but the last time i did raced at muncie for the season, my shafts held, i stripped the side gears out of my diff., when the motor unloaded it ended up braking the lower two bolt holes out of the transmission case and totally unloading everything, so far thats the only damage i've found, so time for a quafie, upgraded axles and carbon coated synchro's. Good luck with repairs.

wow, looks like it really did some damage there!

That axle looks like it snapped the same way mine did earlier this summer while i was tryin to come off the line!

get some cheap insurence and get the torque mount inserts. Or a option for the front torque mounts are these off of ebay: Avid billet torque mounts. I cant remember do u have a LSD in your trans?? What headgasket are you running? I would prob second the fact that the boost blew up ur radiator like a ballon. Hopefully you will get it up and running soon.

I'm pretty good at tearing mine up too. It's always something different.

Broke both my axles at the same time. And still ran a 12.5!!!

I've got an OBX diff. I did the ghetto polyurethane on my motor mounts, I could actually make some of those torque mounts, and I've been looking at engine dampers. My head gasket is a cometic, it could have something to do with the radiator. I'm just not completely sure since it was fine when I looked everything over after my first pass. After the wheel hop incident it looks like that but the engine runs fine, no smoke or anything. It's weird. I'm wondering if the forces that bent the mount and rattled bolts loose are what did it. Regardless I'm pulling the head to check everything and I have a spare HG already. The season's over anyway and I'm not doing any major upgrades this year so I can take my time. I'll get it fixed and drivable soon and get the suspension, mounts, ect. taken care of by spring. I have considered doing a little meet in spring to go to Martin, Mi if anyone's interested.

daaaaym :eek3:
I think I'm going to stick with stock axles for now. I'd rather the weak link be a $60 axle than my diff or worse.

I would say that you should have had coolant all over the engine bay. The radiator cap is supposed to vent past 15 PSI, and either your overflow bottle should have blown up, or the coolant system should have blown its top. If it couldn't vent fast enough, then you pushed a hell of a lot of air in there fast, and the only way I think that could have happened is if you lifted your head by stretching the head bolts. If you did, that might also explain why the turbo stabilizer bracket is broken in half.

But that could have happened from the wheel hop, though. Wheel hop is a bitch. u need awd.
