Intakes Question/Opinions
Alright, I'll try to keep it short:
Disassembled my car's stock intake recently to clean out gunk left over from when coil went out

^kinda hard to make out (syrup made of gas, upper cylinder lube & oil)
and not only did I notice something weird but I realized just how restrictive the stock intake is.
First of all, does anyone know WTF this is pictured below?

It doesn't seem to actually enter the tube, it looks smooth inside where that part extends from.
Lastly, what are your opinions of this cheap not-from-ebay intake I came across? Anyone used something similar by chance?(either but primarily the top one)

Nothing too important, but I figured I'd see what people had to say.

I know man, i had a similar tube like that on my stock intake for my civic but i replaced it with an aem kit. As for the one from pilot i havent really heard of pilot being good for performance parts (I havent heard anything bad either) but are you going for performance or just the fact that an aftermarket intake is better for your car?

I say if you're gonna get an intake, why risk the ticket for having a non CARB legal part? Then again if you're not in California, you don't have to worry about d-bags like we do.
I think any intake is fine as long as it has the worm grip fasteners and a good filter.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm still weighing my options but money is extra tight right now and some unexpected costs are gonna put a new intake on hold, at least for a while. Oh well, I'll try and make the most of what's on the car now
:ugh:

*edit.....here is a pic
I was 1/2 joking w/ my reply to qtiger but I wasn't %100 sure what he was referring to, now I am.
I've seen that design before (wasn't aware of that name) and it does seem like it would work well.
I'd consider it if I could find one that wasn't too expensive, however the thought of searching google, etc. for a good deal on a "whale penis" doesn't seem like it will turn up great results :chuckles:
Thanks, no more sleepless nights
