Why is it that you lose power when the ac is on?

The compressor in the AC system is driven by the engine. The compressor has to compress the refrigerant to almost 200psi. That requires alot of effort. That is why your engine loses power with the AC on.

Have you also noticed how your house hold air conditioner consumes so much energy???

The car's compressor is similar to the household's one just that is more practicar for cars!!

Any way to replace the compressor with a more efficient one? I always have to turn the A/C off when getting on the freeway or driving on the highway.
