hello i have a 90 civic hatch with a zc. The back of the hatch is always covered with black specks. kind of like it is burning oil but some friends say that that might not be the case because it dosent smoke. they say it could be that the motor is just running really rich. plaease lt me know what you huys think. and if that is the case what do i do to fix

 

do the specks come off? and if they do do more appear after a short or long drive?

 

When you floor it does black smoke come out?

 

the specks come off and they do come back and its only smoked once and it was sitting for a couple of days

 

????? ummmm... hehe i really dont understand it doesnt sound like your "smoking" out of ur exhaust and the specks might just be road dust...umm are there freshly paved roads in your area?

 

Yeah, I'd say it sounds more like crap from the road. Especially likely on a hatch since the airflow off those is all jacked up, as I put it, and so more chance of dirt/grime ending up on the back.

If you don't smell anything funky outside the car when it's running and at WOT you don't see any black smoke than I wouldn't worry about it... just my 2 pennies.

 

if I was running rich, I'd donate to charity and write it off as a tax deduction.
