Actually my fastest times were in 1st gear. I ran in 2nd a couple of times, but I dropped 1.5 seconds staying in 1st

really? just that course, or are you doing that for the majority of courses now. i really want to autocross sometime soon, but the seasons about over. i think my car is set up pretty well for it with the low end power of jrsc. its just whether i can drive that well or not. i'm thinking i'd spend most of my time in 2nd gear because 1st is so short for me. that and its hard as hell to downshift to first when rolling.

Well I recommend to all novices to stay in 2nd. Newbies cannot handle the power as efficiently. Staying in 2nd keeps you smoother which is the biggest key to autocrossing.
Give it a try. Autocrossing is one of the easiest motorsports to get involved in. Lots of pros started out there - Peter Cunningham, Neal Sapp, etc...

And that's with 350f/400r springs with Konis 1 turn front and 2 turns rear. Crazy eh?
