105000 miles routine maintenance ????
Hi im looking at buying a 00 ex with 104000 miles. Its at a honda dealership, and i wanna do the routine maintenance on it before i take my 1000 mile drive back home. Can some1 tell things that need to be done, as i do not have an owners manual or haynes. Has any1 had this done recently, give me an estimated cost? Also, should i have the timing belt and water pump changed?

First off thats alot of miles on a 00, you can definitly find something with less on it. As for the maintenance they should have done it before they put it on the lot for sale. Now Im only saying that because the honda dealership I work at does that. The timing belt should be changed and 90,000, its 60,000 here in arizona do to the weather. So it should have been changed recently. Check the out drive belts if they look cracked or worn then most likely the timing belt will be also. That also consist of changing the water pump and valve cover gasket. So look for those. Other than that look for basic things like the oils, brakes, and especially the tires if you are going to be driving it so far home. And ask questions see if they have maintenance records of the vehicle. hope this helps alittle

If I were u i would change everything in the maintenance. Wires, Plugs, cap and rotor, Oil, Oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, timing belt, water pump, 02 Sensors = before and after catalyc. 02 sensors get worn out and clogged by 90,000 miles. = $400-$500. lol

the only thing I would worry about would be the timing belt as that's the only engine component vital to the existence of the motor. Other than that, worry about the maintenance when you get home. It's a honda... it'll make it.

thx for all the tips, i kno certain things go around 100k and i just want it to make it the 1000 miles homes, and whiles its at the dealership id just like some things taken care of. I kno its alot of miles, but i just need it to get me 2 and from school, nothing else. my 94 ex was hella reliable and comfortable, but i just want something newer.

High miles in low years is GOOD. That means they're mostly freeway miles. Plus, 6 years times 15,000 miles a year = 90K miles average use on a car that age. Nothing out of the ordinary.
There's no major problems that Civics have that you should be worried about. So long as it's had its regular scheduled maintenance you'll be fine.
