Default ABS axle in non ABS civic?

hey everyone. love this forum! Anyway, I'm about to do a front driver's side axle replacement. I purchased a new half axle for my 93 civic LX that was made for a civic equipped with ABS. Mine does NOT have ABS. The guy at the store said you can "pop off" or slide of the gear like mechanism that is attached with a screwdriver. I should probably just go return it and find a new one elsewhere, but I was curious if anyone has ever heard of doing this. thanks for any responses.

Hmm... In L.A., Autozone is the place to get your axles. They take them back, and don't ask questions. I don't have experience with axles enough to tell you that your tweak won't work, but when it comes to components like axles, just think of the damage you would do to other people/cars if your tweak should fail.

shouldnt be a problem using that axle, it just has a ring on it for the abs, wont interfere with anything. so go ahead and use it with or without the ring on

yeah..thanks civicrcr . That's what I figured too. If there is no mechanism there for ABS, it's basically just an extra ring that sits there and doesn't interfere. Guess I'll find out. Any other remarks out there?

I always use ABS axles because my autozone life time waranty replacements are originally from a car that had ABS. It won't hurt anything.
