i have an ls/vtec in my 94 hatch and whenever vtec come in at 5000rpm's it breaks up really bad. it feels like backfiring in the exhaust and lots of black smoke. i have a vafc, and someone said that may be the problem. does anyone have any suggestions. if i unplug the vtec solenoid then it dosent happen.

You are prob giving it way too much fuel, hecne the black smoke...

Really, unless you have major mods, there is no need for a VAFC... It can actually hurt you, and in this case, it appears it is doing just that.

did you have the vafc tuned or did you just mess with the settings not knowing what you were doing?

i had it tuned i have ctr pistond eagle hbeams skunk 2 cams and other little odds and ends. my vtec was working fine then one day it just stopped working right

someone suggested a problem in the vafc so i disconnected it and it didnt work. does anyone have any other suggestions
