Bro, those lights bulbs are rip off... $2.50US for each bulb!!!!

Im gonna pull out my dash board apart very soon one day and i'll make sure that the dash will light up as i want it and use the easiest way to make it work and let you guys know how i go... Im gonna go into every store and ask what i can do and use

Keep you posted.

P.S. i dont think you should use condoms at all cos they will shrink and not shine bright anyways and maybe not LEDs cos they will only shine forward where as normal bulbs will shine like OEM...

$2.50 is pretty average on ebay for a LED bulb(there a little more cuz they're more of a specialty bulb)....if you want a wider angle you just lightly sand the head of the led bulb and you have a wider light angle

for a bulb yes but you have to remember LED bulbs have ALOT more life than a normal bulb...plus there brighter and take less power to run

ok in addition to what i did with the 4 #74 bulbs(putting a larger head bulb w/ a 194 bulb condem and changing the one 194 bulb to a white led bulb) i also took the cluster out again cuz i had a bright idea....i ddnt take pics cuz i dont have a digital camera and my friends girls had his....anyways this is what i did on my 00 civic si and assume this would work on 96-00 civics as well but may be wrong. IF you take the cluster out and look at the top of the cluster you will notice there is a long piece of "see through" black plastic with a couple spots that are like a real light blue to allow the light to come through from the two top #24 bulbs. I took the clear plastic front piece off by unsnapping the tabs and then there are tabs for the black plastic bezel and cover just snap those off(oh you'll have to take out the top right bulb) and remove bezel. Now like i was talking about earlier there is a long black transpearent plastic with a couple light blue spots for the light to come through that lights up the cluster from the front. What i did was take that piece out and cut the middle/center section out. This way i could insert a piece of cut colored gel filter that is used for strobe lights to change the color of the light. I choe to use blue and cut the strips to fit in the section i removed and then just used tap to secure. Now when i reinstalled it the light was just real white w/ a slight blue tint and not the effect i wanted so i took it out again and added another layer of the plaste gel filter and then reinstalled to get the desired effect. Now i know this is kinda confusing w/o pics but im pretty sure that if you have a similar cluster than once you remove it and start looking it over you see exactly what im talking about. Ill try to get a camera and take a pic of the cluster now. If i remember when i get some reverse glow gauges and put em in i;; try to remember to take pics what i described unless someone does this before than and takes pics. Like i said i just used the colored plastic gel filter from a storbe light and of course not the hard plastic disc but the flimsy colored filters. Hope this helps!

Ok this is a basic how to explaining the way you would go about changing the light on a 96-00 civic.(this is from a 00 civic si but i believe this will work for 96-00 civics) I took pics myself and will include instructions but will also include links to other relevent post to help further.

Things you will need:
-Phillips head screw driver
-tape
-scissors
-strobe light colored filter(what ever color you want the light to be)
-patience
apporx. time is about 30 mins depending on ability

Here are the strobe light filters that i had

Step 1:
Remove screws that hold the outer plastic trim

Step 2:
Pull out(w/ a downward foward motion) from the top of the plastic trim

Step 3:
Pop out the bottom of the plastic trim by pulling up and out on each side of the plastic trim

Step 4:
Remove the bottom inner screws that hold the actual gauge cluster(2 total- one on each side)

Step 5:
Remove top inner screws of the gauge cluster(2 total- one on each side)

Step 6:
Remove cluster (be careful of harnesses in the rear)

Step 7:
Remove the 4 harness plugs from the rear

Now you can tilt the cluster up and see at the top the plastic piece(piece should be black with a couple of light blue spots for the light to come through that we'll be changing(in this pic its already changed)

Step 8:
Now the cluster is out pop the clear tabs(6 i believe in total) and remove clear gauge lens

Step 9:
Pop the black tabs(6 as well ) and take out the top right bulb that has the wires coming off it and then remove the black inner trim of the cluster

Step 10:
Now that the trim piece is removed you can see from the top the piece that will be changed....just remove the piece

The way i changed it was by cutting into the piece and removing most of the center of the plastic "lens" and then i took the strobe light filter(in my case i used blue) and cut the right size strips and taped them down...i had to use two strips long ways to fill in the cut out are but did two layers for the right blue effect i desired(i installed the cluster with just one layer and the light only had a slight blue color so i removed it and added the second layer i already spoke of)

Now just put the now modified light filter back into the gauge cluster trim and reverse steps to reinstall...Enjoy your improved gauge cluster!

Here is a link to a DIY on how to change the rear bulbs of the gauge cluster for a 92-95 civic...this cluster is a little diff. but not much....

Here is another link on how to change the bulbs (w/ diagram and bulb sizes on page 3 of the thread).........

Here is a link for gauge cluster(and other automotive bulbs) replacement bulbs and led bulbs..................
