I can't remember if I've posted on this forum about the transmission problems I'm having, but I basically need to replace the 5-speed tranny in my 1996 Civic HX.

I have found one I'm considering getting, but it's from a hatchback (a '98), and it's a d16y7. I would think that this transmission would work, but I wanted to check and make sure that the hatch tranny will be fully compatible. The only reason I ask, is a website I use to search parts asks me to specify if I need a coupe/sedan transmission or a hatchback transmission. I wouldn't know why I would need to specify, unless it's an oversight.

So, will this transmission work for me?

 

If the tranny is from a 98 and you have a 96 then it should bolt right in without problems since it's a D-series tranny.

yeah, it will work.

 

Gear ratio's may differ slightly but it will bolt up and work without fail.

 

actually, I'm pretty sure y5 manuals and y7 manuals are the same

its the y5 auto (cvt) thats a little out there....

 

I thought the HX 5spd tranny is geared higher for fuel economy. A little higher than the DX tranny.

 

dx/lx trannys have pretty long gears to begin with. and I've run even against stock hx's....
