Default B16a2 - Ls/vtec - H22a

ok right now i have a B16A2 w/ a gsr tranny lined up for my civic
the only downside on this motor is that it has a little under 80k miles on it

i have the chance to get a LS/VTEC from one of the local shops here in chicagoland for the around the same price as my b16a (all i have to do is sell my b16 head & block and use the remaining parts on the ls/vtec head & block)

ive heard lots of mixed opinions about the ls/vtec motor
mostly they sound like this:
"well i heard that ls/vtec is FAST AS **** but is very UNRELIABLE"
that UNRELIABLE part is the only thing holding me back on this motor

also i have another opportunity to get an H22A put into my car
just so happens that my friend has one sitting in his garage!!
i havent gotten all the info about this motor yet (miles, year, etc)but i will this week

he tells me that he will take my b16 setup plus about a grand or so on top of it (he says he paid over 3k for the h22)

that doesnt sound too bad to me but it will put me about a month behind schedule (i had planned to use that money for the swap /tranny conversion)

so right now my options are:
1) stick with the b16a2
2) LS/VTEC
3) H22A

so if any has any advice i could sure use some right now

oh and in case anyone wanted to know
i plan to put in a turbo around next summer

With ls/vtec, all your doing is plugging the hole on the bottom of the head where it usually gets oil and plumbing oil into another orifice. I can't find the unreliability in that unless you do a crappy job. But it's pretty easy. So I guess it just depends how soon you want to do your swap. Either the ls/vtec or the h22 would be good candidates. The only thing with the ls/vtec is that it won't be able to rev that high because the stock bottom end. But with boost it would be a monster.

Default ls/vtec

what about the horses with the ls swap, on a 96 civic ex? will it be worth swaping right now because i plan on puttin the greddy turbo/intercooler at the end of the year maybe later, but if i did the sway and put some dc headers and aem pulleys/cam gears.

I wouldn't worry about any of that stuff if you're going turbo. And if you're looking for a lot of power, go with something that has a t3/t04.

Ok, this is from much experience with all my buddies and i in the same situation (well sorta). My friend had an ls, his options were boost or lsvtec. Here is why you SHOULD NOT go with lsvtec, ESPECIALLY with boost http://www.hondalife.com/articles/lsvtechype.htm . That will explain all the lsvtec deal. Then, if you look at your b16a2 and think about putting it in, the way us racers drive these motors 80k will only last til about 100,000 til it starts to smoke. Therefor, think re-build kit for around 1k-1.5k to rebuild which isn't worth it. I would go h22a if it has low mileage. Or i would build the b16a2 and run 15-20 psi. Its all up to you but i WOULD NOT go with lsvtec. Later
