Default VTEC/V-AFC Question

We are working on a 94 turbo civic with a vtec d16 swap. The wiring harness isn't vtec or the ecu. The ecu has had a chip installed, though. Not sure what kind. Anyway, we are in the process of installing a vafc for a customer.

And obviously the non-vtec wiring harness doesn't have the two vtec solenoid signal and pressure wiring and pins. So do we need to add two pins into the ecu plug-ins for the vtec solenoid signal and pressure wires at A4 and D6 locations for the vafc and vtec to work properly together? Or can we just skip the ecu and use the vafc to control the vtec exclusively?

Thanks for the help.

If the ECU isn't VTEC, how do you plan to "add it in"??

The ecu is a po6 that has been chipped. Not sure what the chip is, though. Can vtec ecus be chipped to work with vtec. Or does he need an actual vtec ecu for it to work properly. Can I just bypass the ecu and wire the solenoid directly into the v-afc? I have no clue about Hondas's other than some research that I've done on this.

The VAFC/AFC is a piggy back to the ECU. You'll need to have a P28 or other VTEC ECU to have VTEC itself. You cannot bypass the ECU with an AFC. The AFC is not a standalone computer.

skip the VAFC - it's a waste of money. If you have a p06 converted to VTEC, that's all you need. You can buy wiring subharness to add plugs and ECU pins for the VTEC solenoid and oil pressure sensor. They're pretty cheap ($20-$40), and it's a very straight forward "installation" (it's too simple to even justify the word "installation").

I highly doubt you can convert a P06 to VTEC. He'll need at least a P28 to run his VTEC motor.

The VAFC is not a waste of money. But it isnt the best choice for tuning either with better and cheaper systems such as Hondata or Crome.
