Dude! If you don't know a whole lot about AC systems, at least go pay $99 to get a good diagnosis THEN replace whatever parts yourself. IF your system WASN'T low, and you "charged it up", then sure as hell your compressor is now toast. I've been dickering with my system on and off for a year now, and "charging up my system" was an expensive lesson in what a cheap dumb-ass can lead to. So now I've put about $1200 into my car's A/C and know a whole lot more (I can swap out every freaking bolt and part myself in 1 day NOW), but I sure as heck wish I had not been cheap to learn lesson #1.
how old is the car? Start the car and look at the window indicator on top of the drier, If its clear then there is not enough refrigerant in the sytem. if it has leaked out you will have to get it vacuumed and then recharged. In order to recharge it you will need the guages and know how to read them, While recharging you must monitor the drier, the window on the top will be milky white when its sustaining. You might just have some bad O rings, so check out the hoses for any signs of moisture.
