Alternator or battery???
2 months ago, Autozone told me to replace my battery because it was dead, but my alternator was fine. I purchased a new battery and 2 days later I replaced the alternator because it went bad. About a month ago, my battery light started coming on intermittantly and my car started doing weird things. The blower for the AC would blow fast and then slow down, the lights dim and get brighter on its own and it loses power and then gains it back. 2 weeks ago, I noticed a sulphur smell when driving. I assumed it was the catalytic converter and blew it off. Today, the car sat at a store for 3 hours and was dead when we returned to it. It will not stay charged at all now. I jumped it and took it to Autozone with my receipt and they tested it and they said the alternator is fine at about 14.00 amps and the battery at .74 amps. They said the battery is bad and the alternator had nothing to do with it. The battery is completely dry. I am taking the battery back tomorrow.
My neighbor thinks that the alternator overcharged my battery. Could this be and the test just not showing it?

We replaced the battery today and almost immediately, it smelled like rotten eggs again. We took it back to Autozone and finally tested it when it was acting up. It was pulling almost 30 volts! They ordered a new one and we will get it in the morning. The sticker on the bottom of the alternator was burnt. Glad it didn't catch on fire!
