Once again 92 d15b vtec

The last time I ordered headers, it was for my 67 Camaro. Hookers Header and in pairs. Now that I'm in the Import scene, I ordered a Megan Stainless Steal header. I did a search and didn't come up w/ much. A guy with a Lude saw his temp go up, but saw an overall drop in temp under the hood, as well as a an increase in the efficiency in is A/C.

Can anyone explain the do's and/or don'ts - the gains and/or losses due to wraping your headers w/ thermo wrap?

 

Wrapping a header on a street car is not a good idea. While the wrap can hold in heat and keep under hood temps down, it's also that heat that can cause welds to crack prematurely. Also, the wrap can hold in moisture from driving in the rain. I wrapped a header on my Civic ... once. I ended up with a ton of corrosion and pin holes where the wet wrap trapped moisture in some of the lower bends in the piping. Consider a good quality coating if you want to keep the heat in the header and out of the engine bay.

CN: wrap on race car = good ... wrap on street car = not so good.

 

Werd! I'm sorry that you had to go through such misfortune for me to not have to go through the same. :hs: But I guess that's what it's all about. This is a daily beater, so thermo wrap will NOT be going on this car.

im runnin a megan header on my 5th gen too... works fine, no heat problem or anything.

 

Man... I'm not lookin' to blast to the moon, but I can't wait for this sucker to get here.

 

yea NA doesnt need thermo wrap. Now boost project benifit ALOT from wrapping the down pipe and manifold. The wetness is easily taken care of with some high temp paint over the wraps, been done alot on homemadeturbo and works great.

 

I saw the paint as I did a bunch of searches on the net. I think I need to get my ass to Pomona, and see what other heads are doing to their rides like I did when I was a kid with my Camaro.
