I love how all the noobs are preeching about how "headers" and "Cold air intakes" are mods that add any kind of power lol. The fact of the matter is, like fathergoat says your gonna get MAYBE 15hp max. As far as teh differene between CAI and short ram, its negliable, that is untill your CAI, making 1 extra hp, decides to make a new life for its self as a straw, and you get a paper weight for a motor. Now the other guy, who claims to know how much he made to the flywheel before and after his coldairintake, im EXTREMLY curius how you figured those numbers, as engine dynos are not all together common and definenently not cheap enough to justify finding the power of CAI.
At 16, with all seriusness, make the car FUN to drive, because if you have a fast car your gonna do one or both of 2 things. Wreck the car and kill someone else, or your self, OR Drive like an absolute douch and rack up so many tickets your insurance will be bending you over even your driving a Geo Metro. So get a nice stereo, keep the car clean, and enjoy the car for what it is, slow commuter

My dads got a 98 Civic LX too... He's the first owner, has 37,080 miles on it.
Aftermarket rims and stereo but the rest is 100% STOCK.
It almost -never- gets revved up high. Sometimes he revs it up to arround 5,600 RPM though.
I'd put the minimal performance parts on that car, but just to improve performance not to gain horses.
If I were you, I wouldn't put any big ammount of money under the hood of that 98 LX. Prolly some maintenance if needed.
Just do like my dad, use the car, treat it nice and enjoy the good gas mileage but don't try to do anything stupid because you could wreck the d16y7 it has, unless your gonna do an engine swap.. you may fuck arround with it a while if you want to.

If I'd want to make a 98 civic LX be fast, I'd put a huge turbo and a bov that could be heard from the next state, but the car would last a week :P lol
In my opinion, a civic lx wasn't made for speed :P just to transport your a$$ from a place to another, tehehe

still a waste of money. something like an air intake actually degrades performance (although you do gain a little bit in the top end, but low-mid range goes to shit)

First of all your intake must be gold plated, second you can't compare a b series engine to a d series. Performance mods help performance engines more than economy engines.
