Default Oh no... broken wheel mounting stud.

I was removing my wheel today after a 50 ft drive (max). I noticed my lug nuts turned hard all the way out.

When putting it back on one of the nuts went on really hard, so, I tried removing it and while i was removing it, the stud snapped! All of the other three went on okay.

I'm hoping all I need is a new rotor. Please say all I need is a new rotor. I'm sick of fucking with this car. What if this was a flat tire.. I'd be fucked...

How much to repair? What would I need?

I'm already taking it in for a brake bleeding and a O2 Sensor replacement on Monday. Is it okay to drive 'till then?

I'm pretty sure that all you need is a new rotor. However, you can drive okay with 3 studs in city, for a while of course.

the stud is on the wheel hub, not the rotor, i believe you can do one of two things... take the knuckle assembly off and have a new wheel hub assembly pressed in or i think someone once told me you can just put a new stud in, but how that one works i dunno.

Don't worry about it man, it's shitty I know, I had 2 snap on me. Just drive it easy(or tow if you're worried) to the nearest shop that can put a new stud in there for you. It cost me 60$ to have 4 studs replaced, it may cost you around the same thing(I think the 60$ was from labor). Nothin' to worry about, I was shitty when it happened and talked to my buddy at the shop and all was well. So you don't need a new rotor, heh, and you shouldn't need a new hub either. Good luck

I've never had the problem on a civic but on previous vehicles I was able to just buy a new stud for a couple bucks, pound the old one out and press the new one in. Is it front or back? I'm going to be working on mine today so I'll check for you.

It's on the hub not on the rotor. The rears are easier than the fronts.

Did you put the lugs back on by hand? It also helps to add anti-seize compound to the lugs before reinstalling the lugs. Then you use a torque wrench to tighten them down to 80ft/lbs.

Yeah, I always tourque my lugs to 80-85 in the correct pattern. Then tourque them again 50 miles later.

yeah id just replace the stud, you can find them at your local auto parts shop, the proper way to get them in and out is with a press, but growing up, we didnt have one so we always used a 10lb sledge and a brass dolly or dowel. do you have aftermarket wheels on your car?
