Default what kind of knock is this?

just yesterday my engine started knockin, i have a 98 civic lx, with a header/cat/muffler, cai, msd cap/coil, its been fine , now its just making a knocking sound, it sounds like its coming from the bottom area of the engine, the sound is loudest right at the oil pan, and when i accelerate the knocking goes faster along with the engine.. is this rod knock?.. and how can i fix it?....it has the cadence of a machine gun at like 3000rpm

keep driving it since it ONLY has 170k miles on it. Then buy a new motor for it next week when the rod comes through the block !

Ive heard this sound in one of my relatives civic, turned out to be a scored bearing, the owners never changed the oil, they would just add more when the dip stick read empty.

Uh, he wasn't asking you if you had a new engine, he was saying you need a new engine. Rod knock comes from a bad rod bearing. Even if it's a different bearing, it isn't going to get better. So....

Either replace or rebuild, but if you want to avoid the raping part, I'd probably just go for a quality used motor. Heck, if you have some mechanical skill, you could do it yourself.
