Check engine light not turning on, at all!!!
My check engine light isnt turning on when I turn my key, or even after the car is on or turned off. I think the bulb is possibly blown, but maybe the previous owner had done something to it. I needed an inspection, but couldn't get it due to the light and some engine codes dealing with my sensors. Can anyone clarify what it could be, or am i just a dumb a@3 for thinking it wasnt a blown light. Its a civic 96 ex and i need an inspection asap.

umm change the lightbulb... the light should coem on and go out at startup.. if that is not happening AND you failed inspection for the trouble code.. then more than likelyu the bulb is out OR was pulled out.. just replace the bulb..

Thanks, u guys were right on one thing the bulb was blown. Put new bulb in but their must be some wires crossing. Either way I am gonna buy new gauge face and cluster. Then I can find the problem. I checked the ecu for codes and I have a knock sensor thats faulty and the header 02 sensor faulty. The knock isnt bad, but I dont think it could be a piston. What do ya think??

I think you're running lean from the bad o2 sensor and the knock code is going off because it's detecting knock... from running too lean. You might want to do a compression check if it's been like this for a while. Running lean will roast your exhaust valves and seats over time. That would be a bad thing.

before replacing the cluster... Reset the ECU by pulling the "backup" fuse from the fuse box under the hood. Leave it out for 30 seconds and put it back. Turn the key to the on position but leave the engine off. If the CEL goes out after 5 seconds, then there's nothing wrong with that circuit and you don't need to change the cluster.

if you are sayin that the diagnostic system isnt working still i had the same problem and it was a broken off knock sensor shorting out on the back of my motor, or you have a short somewhere else
