Default idle problem

my friends civic has a problem where it when it idles it's goes to 3000 rpms than back down and it keeps doing that even if you hit the gas it goes up too 3000 rpms and than back down and does that the whole time it's idleing i was just wondering what the problem might be thanks

Check the tps sensor and there is a valve on the back of the intake mani that could be it too. I forgot the name of it. I want to say iav sensor but i dunno.

Here is a picture of both. Its not exact cause this is for a 99-00 civic si b16a2. If yours is obd1 then it might not have as much stuff as in the picture.

iacv.. idle air control valve... check the timing, or any vaccum leaks.. usually if its a vaccum leak the idle bounce up and down... also try checkin the throttle cable could be too tight and the butterfly is not closing all the way.. also u can try adjusting the idle screw..

IT's def the IACV, I can't tell you how many times I have replaced them fon people's cars, whether it be a toyota or a honda, or other car. It is the IACV, change it oout, it is behind the IM.

Im guessing its your map sensors bro, i think thats your problem so id get that checked out...
