Default compression 411 / engine paint / d16

on a d16z6 (94 Honda Civic EX). what is the safest and highest compression ratio you can still run on pump gas (91-93 octane is available here we do have some stations that carry 101, but they are few and far between) and not get spark knock or detonation (tuned or untuned engine). please don't post, go turbo, or why don't you want a turbo, or why waste your time building an N/A car or you will never beat my turbo (like i give a shit your car is faster, even john force doesn't win every race) or do a swap or some other dumb-ass reply: like my car is red, or i gained 90HP adding a spoiler. also where can i go to get the car tuned once it is all put back together to make sure it is running like a scalded dog. any info on how hondata (or similar products) or vafc controllers (which do i need for my car) and how they work would be nice too. which one should i use for this application? or should i just get a chipped ecu. remember this is my daily driver and i am not building it for racing, i am building it for driving through mountains, and having power to pass an 18-wheeler on tight 2 lane country roads with high traffic. i have another block i plan to build for racing, just have to see how things pan out for that, that one is more than likely going to be turbo, or i may sell them both and do an h22 swap, but for now all i need is the compression question answered. i prefer answers from people who have done it, or have seen actual comp results and know the levels. i am looking for tuned and untuned VERIFIABLE specs.

as far as painting the block. i have heard that when you use degreasers and/or engine cleaners some of them will pull the paint off the block. is there a certain brand of paint or a trick to keeping the paint from doing this, or is it just a myth that high temp paints will peel off or start to show runs.

thanks for the help, your knowledge is valuable
