bought some used parts, bought a lot through wholesale connections, club discouts, group buys, friends that work at body shops, did all the work myself with borrowed tools... and still only spent about $20,000 on the GSX (including the $7500 I bought it for 5 years ago).

I guess I saved a TON of money!!! :dunno:

It's an addiction. It comes with a price tag. Nothing is too good for your baby.

Looking for deals online. Sometimes some online retailers want to unload excess parts so they sell cheap.

Also, being able to do the work yourself saves a lot. When you're not spending money on labor, the cash could go towards parts.

Just remember, close to 90% of the time, you get what you pay for. If you always want to buy cheap, the car in return is going to ...
That's my belief. Several people disagree with me I bet. But that is my input.

Meh... you're mostly right. I've witnessed some poor excuses for imports in the wrong hands... but value is the variable here.

What's a $4000 sub-12 second AWD Dodge Colt or 450whp civic worth to its owner if he smokes a 12.90 second Viper or a 13 second vette with it?

Priceless!

Either way, it's a "cheap" car in comparison to what it can beat up on. What's valuable to you? Being seen in a Viper or smoking one in a pile of crap? Weird comparison, I know... but you get my point about value.

If you know what you're doing, you don't have to spend a fortune for speed. I think that KNOWLEDGE is probably the biggest money saver of all, and while it has no affect on value whatsoever, it has a huge impact on quality and performance.

Patience>expensive parts. My revised turbo setup costed 1049$ and everything is brand name except the custom charge pipes. Well, except my SSauto wastegate, but they aren't bad at all if you take them apart and reassemble them to check for any faults. All you have to do is shop around on forums and eBay.
