i have a 95 honda civic hatchback. when i start it up for the first time of the day or after its been sitting for a while it revs really high for about 5 minutes. i would understand if it did it for a few seconds but its really loud. ot sure of how high the rpms are. can anyone help me fix this
is it cold outside when you first start it up? some cars, i know mine does this, will idle higher than normal in the morning or when first started in the day until the engine warms up. if it does it everytime no matter the weather check your idle air control valve on your intake manifold, take it off, clean off any grime on the little filter and put it back on, see if that fixes it.
ok i'm guessing you have the multi-point injection (mpfi) mani so here's how to remove that iacv.
If that doesn't return your idle to normal then it could be a sensor or otherwise.
if its carb then its on the right side under that black thing, should have a green plug on it. not the one directly in the center its off to the very right
