Default different tire widths on front / rear?

so im just scratchin my brain. and ill try to say this as clearly as i can....

draging aside, because obviously you want those big fat tires on the front and those spare tires on the back....

i was thinking about how those rear wheel drive people get to have a rear rim thats an inch wider than the front

but for just basic fun spirited driving would changing that up on a fwd car work? have a front from thats an inch wider than the rears?

obviously there goes rotating the tires.... but what gains/negatives would that be?

---- brain fart---

:hsdunno:

I've done it with my autocross cars. I don't recommend it with street driven cars because the car can become squirrely/darty on the highway and when it rains.

Also the back end will tend to me more tail happy and if you are not an experience driver you can kill yourself.

I've done 215/45x16" Azenis up front and 205/50x15" out back and the car turned great. Was actually 1 second faster on average at the event I tried it.

So it drives better than running 215/45x16 all around?

Agreed. Also consider that your daily driven car will need to have its tires rotated. You won't be able to do that with different sizes so the benefits do not outweigh the downfalls.

Exactly there is real no benefits to do this to a street car. I can see for competition like autocross or drag racing, but that's it.

Also you cannot fit 215/45x16" tires on a Civic unless you shave the tire and have lots of negative camber. It will rub pretty bad.

I had 215/40's on mine and they didn't rub, but that's just over 10mm less sidewall so I don't doubt that the 45's would rub.

One Pontiac model (GTP I think) currently comes stock with wider front tires and is FWD.

Like everyone else has said, a wider front tire patch and a stiffer tire offsets the front biased weight distribution and loading of the front tires.
