Default Reprogram to get better MPG?

I was thinking.....when turbcharging your pushing in a lot of air and need to take in more fuel which means less MPG.....but can you reprogram your computer to take in less air and fuel to get better MPG.
heres the thing. My DD is a 94 civic EX auto and since i just use it for trips to work and what not i dont care about HP. Is it possible to decrease the HP and air and fuel making my MPG go up?
Thanks

I think turbo was used as an example. If you can alter your ECU or any other components to suck in more air/fuel, can you program it in the opposite direction? Can you alter it to consume LESS of a fuel/air mixture to increase mpg? I think that's what he's asking.

Sure you can... but you don't want to, especially with FI. The less fuel, the better chance of destroying your motor. Lean + FI = bad things

Most tuners will run you a bit rich when going FI just to be sure you're not going to blow something or lean out. It's really one of the worst things that can happen.

I'm 80% sure you'd lose volumentric efficiency, meaning you'd actually lose MPG by decreasing fuel and air intake. You're better off improving mpg, by reducing the vehicle's weight, doing proper tune ups, keeping your tires inflated properly, stock wheels, stay away from full throttle, good spark plugs and ignition rotor, keeping your ignition timing at specs, removing the backseat if you don't need it, and driving without the A/C on.

Even if you did adjust the mixture down, and it wasn't going to hurt your engine, I don't think it would make that much of a difference anyway.

The engine's usally come optimised for gas milage. Less horsepower does not always = more MPG... lightening the car in small ways, driver habits, things like that will do more.
